These forms and links have been updated. Please make sure you are using the most current contact information and forms!

Step 1

We are now receiving inquiries for 2021 for Hurricane Dorian recovery teams.  All teams should begin by filling out the Schedule Request Form
Planning remains difficult due to shifting travel restrictions in The Bahamas. Once we receive your initial inquiry, we'll contact you via email to start the conversation.

Wait for our email to you before moving on to step 2!
REQUEST DATES & LOCATION INFO
We are currently scheduling teams to serve beginning May 2021 and reserving dates in 2022. Previously cancelled teams get priority in scheduling.

Step 2

Fill out the Short Term Volunteer Application and pay the Registration Fee to be confirmed for your week of service.

Details of the Hurricane Dorian teams are still being developed in coordination with partners such as the United Methodist Church's Mission Volunteers office and UM Committee on Relief.  Housing for teams, air travel, and other accommodations are being monitored in order to determine team size which also follow appropriate Covid-19 guidelines as soon as possible.

*Please try to be realistic in estimating your group size and stay within a margin of 3 persons.

Step 3 - Details

Download 2021 - 2022 Group Leader Packet
As you prepare to come and serve with us, there are four things we need from the Group Leader ahead of time so that we can prepare for your team. Please send your first payment, Volunteer Information Form, travel arrangements, and proof of travel medical insurance ahead of your arrival at the intervals below.  Please also refer to the Group Leader Packet and links below for documents that you will need to bring with you, resources to help you prepare, and important reminders.

Team Payments -  4 months ahead                                 Travel Health Visa Now Required to Enter

Wiring funds is the most secure method with the least fees. You can also pay online via Paypal using credit card or bank account.  Check your invoice for detailed instructions for wire transfer or sending checks made out to "Bahamas Methodist Habitat."

Please be realistic about team size at 4 months (i.e. within a margin of 5 people) - it is easier for us to add a few people at the last minute than to replace a volunteer team we've turned away.

PLEASE DO NOT MAIL CHECKS    Due to circumstances outside our control, it is unlikely that we will receive them. Contact us before sending a check via mail.

Travel Arrangements -  2-4 months ahead

Send us your travel arrangements (airline, flight number,  airport, arrival time) once you have confirmed them.  Reminder: plan your travel to arrive SUNDAY afternoon and depart SATURDAY morning.

We will arrange transportation from the airport but we cannot do this without your specific travel info.  You will need to have the address & phone number of your host site available on the plane  for paperwork purposes.  Please also have the appropriate BMH phone number with you.

Go to our Travel Arrangements Page for Hints and Links                      (even if you use a travel agent)
The Bahamian Government  now requires Travel Health Visa to enter the country.  Current information can be found here https://travel.gov.bs/  Create an account in advance of travel.. Travelers must also  submit negative RT-PCR test result within 5 days of travel in order to enter the Bahamas. The cost of the visa is about $60.  This cost covers a rapid covid test on day 5 in the country as well as short-term medical insurance while here.  While 5 days is a short window, the approval response is fast once the test results are uploaded. For the fastest result, we recommend exploring the forms in advance, including  uploading your passport document  and verifying that the lab you plan to use is one of the CDC-approved labs.  You will also need your flight information and address where you will be staying.

We also strongly suggest that you register your team for additional short-term medical, accident, and medical evacuation and life insurance through United Methodist Volunteers In Mission.  Learn more at UMVIM Insurance FAQs. The UMVIM network offers insurance through their jurisdictional (regional) offices. Please go to the closest provider for coverage. Once insurance has been purchased, send confirmation to BMH
  • Northeastern Jurisdiction
  • North Central Jurisdiction
  • Southeastern Jurisdiction
  • Western Jurisdiction

*UMVIM is reliable and trusted; however, medical insurance may be purchased via a provider of your choice but it must have  medical evacuation, medical and accident coverage in the Bahamas.

VOLUNTEER INFO FORM - 1 month ahead

Submit details about the members of your team 1 months prior to your week of service. Please download the Volunteer Information Form by clicking the button below and emailing the completed version to methodisthabitat@gmail.com   This form is important for us to receive with time to account for food allergies, diet restrictions, special needs, and to match teams to work sites based on skill information.
